Skills Hub News!
Skills Hub Hosts ITV Academy! (May 2026)
Sticks & Glass Skills Hub recently hosted the ITV Academy for a camera familiarisation course, bringing together aspiring camera operators and industry mentors in our purpose-built Leeds facilities. The intensive session combined hands-on practice with broadcast-standard cameras, lens demonstrations, and practical workshops on framing, focus pulling and camera movement, supported by detailed technical briefings from ITV trainers. Participants benefited from small-group coaching, live-playback review and access to our edit suites for immediate post-shoot analysis, ensuring they left with improved confidence, practical skills and a clearer understanding of multi-camera workflows used in professional television production.
S&G at NAB! (April 2026)
Verdy and the Adams visited the NAB Show in Las Vegas, a trip supported by West Yorkshire Combined Authority, where they explored cutting-edge broadcast technology, attended keynote sessions on industry trends and networked with international professionals; the experience provided invaluable insights into live production workflows and post-production tools, reinforcing their skills and inspiring plans to bring new techniques and partnerships back to West Yorkshire’s media community.

March 2026 - A Visit From East Leeds SILC
We were delighted to host East Leeds SILC at Sticks & Glass Skills Hub in March 2026. The visit was a fantastic opportunity to share our industry-standard filmmaking, media, live broadcast and post-production facilities with students and staff. Their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day highlighted the creative potential of an inclusive approach to media education, and the collaborative workshops produced some genuinely impressive work. It was a pleasure to welcome the group and to see staff and pupils making the most of our equipment and expertise; we hope this visit marks the first step in developing a lasting, inclusive provision in Leeds that supports diverse talent and opens new pathways into the creative industries.

What makes you different?
3
At Sticks & Glass Skills Hub we’re not a classroom pretending to be a studio — we are a fully working production and post‑production facility. Our courses take place on live systems using industry‑standard kit, so you learn on the cameras, consoles and software you will actually use in the workplace. That means hands‑on experience with broadcast‑grade cameras, lighting and audio, live control rooms and edit suites running the latest production/post tools, under the guidance of trainers who still work in the industry.
You’ll train within real workflows and tight deadlines, gaining practical skills in a production environment rather than simulated exercises. This bridges the gap between learning and employment: graduates leave confident with portfolio pieces created on professional kit, ready to step into freelance or in‑house roles without a steep equipment learning curve. Practical, current, and connected — that’s what sets us apart.
